BRISBANE OXLEY-SHERWOOD Lions Club

District 201Q3, Brisbane Australia

1993-1998 - Brisbane Oxley-Sherwood

June 1994 Sherwood Lioness Club Closed.

The last major project of the Sherwood Lionesses was a Rock'n Roll dance party at the Greek Community Centre in aid of the Prevent Blindness Foundation. Featuring 'Back-Trax', one of Brisbane's best 50's rock and roll dance bands, Jive dancing displays from a number of the Rock'n'Roll clubs the night was a great success.

A cheque for $3700 was presented to Professor Laurie Hurst, chairman of the Foundation. They sure went out with a bang!

Local - 4QR Radio

Peter Dick, the morning announcer on the ABC's Radio 612.4QR, held a series of breakfast barbeques around the suburbs in 1994, and in March the circus came to the Gilligan household in Sinnamon Park. The vans rolled up at 3am, but fortunately for the Lions (from several of the clubs in our zone) who cooked the breakfast for all the neighbours who called in, we didn't have to start until after 5:30. A good bit of publicity for our clubs, and an insight into the 'behind the microphone' activities of an outside broadcast.
