1973-1978 - Brisbane Western Districts / Brisbane Oxley-Corinda
Local - Lions Plant Sale
Commencing in 1977 as a fundraiser, the Oxley-Corinda Lions Plant Sale became a popular annual event, popular with both the public and the Club members. For the first seven years it was held in Keith Johnson's B.P. garage at Corinda, but when that closed down early in 1983, the Golden Fleece at Oxley was used.
Initially most Lions and their Ladies knew little, but after a few years behind them they became quite knowledgeable about both indoor and outdoor plants, and quite capable of answering most queries directed to them. As a Club project requiring a lot of initial preparation, it totally involved all members and their Ladies, provided an avenue for comradeship in a casual atmosphere, placed the Club's name before the public, and raised between $500 and $1000 each year for Community Service.
National - Cyclone Tracey
Cyclone Tracey hit Darwin Christmas 1974. Members of Oxley-Corinda and their ladies were stationed continuously at Eagle Farm airport and the Reception Centre in McLachlan St., Fortitude Valley helping with the evacuation.
International - Manila Host
Purchased a Portable Dianestic & Speech Audiometer for use by sister club Manila Host.
